We have some exciting news to share with you. The British Blind And Shutter Association have announced the first-ever Global Shading Day. This event is intended to raise awareness about the benefits of shading and it’s due to take place on Tuesday, March 21st.

Global Shading Day

Why Is This Happening?

Climate change is an ever-present issue and never seems to be out of the news. But as global temperatures rise and seasonal heatwaves get worse, it’s never been more important to focus on it. We all know about the dangers of carbon emissions, but what isn’t as widespread is how we can help mitigate them.

Blinds and other forms of window shading are unsung heroes in the fight against climate change. The BBSA, in partnership with the National Energy Foundation, found that air conditioning currently accounts for 10% of the world’s electricity use, and that figure is rising. Window blinds can help maintain a steady temperature in the room and consequently, lead to less reliance on central heating or air conditioning systems. This has a knock-on effect as it means less energy is used, reducing the strain on the power grid and a decrease in emissions.

Raising Awareness

The aim of Global Shading Day 2023 is to increase public knowledge of these facts. We’re hoping this will lead to policymakers taking the effectiveness of shading seriously, and implementing it into their decisions. We want to see a greener planet and keep the world livable for future generations.

Pete Moor, Training Manager at Appeal Home Shading, commented on the news: “This is one of those times when companies need to work together and make it clear that modern shading options can have a dramatic, long-term impact on making the world a greener place.

“Collectively we can raise the profile of the shading industry and emphasise how it helps to cool the planet. The role of window blinds and other shading options often goes overlooked, and this is a real opportunity to change that. Our customers care about the world and we’re delighted to spread the word of how environmentally-conscious our industry is.”
