Since their arrival on the home design scene way back in the 17th century, French Doors and exterior double doors have been a mainstay of homes everywhere. A unique combination of window and door, the French design is still one of the most popular exterior double door designs on the market. French double doors function the same as any other door but with the added benefit of letting in all the window’s natural light. It is safe to say that French double doors will be a mainstay of home design for years to come.

Unfortunately, the one drawback of the glass panes of French double doors is the amount of sunlight that passes through them on a hot day. When the doors and windows are closed, a greenhouse effect can occur where the heat from the sun penetrates the glass and, with no clear way to escape, heats the room to uncomfortable levels. We see this with conservatories, but with the growing popularity of larger windows and roof lanterns, we are also beginning to see it with kitchen and dining spaces.

With spring on the horizon, the priority of keeping our homes warm is gradually going to shift to keeping our homes cool. Soon those beautiful French double doors of yours are going to swing open and let all that fresh Spring air fill your home with the smell of flowers and freshly cut lawns. However, with the arrival of spring comes the inevitable return of flying insects. Those pesky annoyances that we forget about during the winter will soon be basking in the summer sunlight. Going about their day to day lives in and around our homes, much the same as us.

As the inevitable combination of heat, humidity, and insects draws ever closer, we at Appeal Home Shading are proud to offer our bespoke selection of fly screens (also known as mosquito nets and screens) for your French double doors. You can be assured that you can enjoy the spring and summer months in comfort without having to worry about annoying buzzing noises in your home.

Retractable and Discreet

insect screens for windows and doors

Our double door fly screens, also known as insect screens, are entirely retractable when not in use. We have used our 30 years of experience in home shading design and implemented that knowledge into our fly screens. Rather than operating like a second door, or an attachment to your French double doors, our fly screens act as a retractable cover, much like a blind. You can easily pull them across when needed and pull them back when not.

Appeal Home Shading double door fly screens are fixed vertically to the left or right of the door and extend sideways across the opening and latch in place with a magnetic seal. We use an innovative and specifically designed caterpillar track at the base of the installation so the screen can smoothly run across without catching on anything and causing damage to the double doors. When not in use, the screen fits inside a discreet cassette fitted to the outside of your French double doors, specifically designed to blend in and be unnoticeable at a passing glance. We believe that practicality should not sacrifice aesthetics. Therefore, our insect screens have been developed with that very value in mind.

Uncompromised Ventilation

So that you can fully appreciate the ventilation offered by your French double doors, our insect screens allow for efficient airflow without leaving a big enough gap for any creepy-crawlies to sneak in. The comfortable ventilation saves you from turning on electric fans. It helps you save on your energy bills and avoid excessive electricity use, making your home more energy-efficient and sustainable.

Our exclusive ClearVu micro-mesh fabric is crafted from fibreglass, ensuring that your fly screen is durable and robust. In addition, the fabric is almost completely invisible to the naked eye when not right up close. Our ClearVu micro-mesh ensures that you can still enjoy the lovely views of your garden without having to worry about unwelcome guests.
