The Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is an annual event held in early July. Run by the Royal Horticultural Society at Hampton Court Palace in West London, this is the second major national flower show after The Chelsea Flower Show. However it has a slightly different character, with more focus given to environmental issues, growing and cooking, whilst also including inspirational show gardens. This years’ show is bigger than ever, with the largest ever dedicated fruit and vegetable marquees and the world’s biggest plant-themed fashion catwalk.

Shades of Perfection

Struggling to keep your conservatory at a comfortable temperature? Find out how choosing the right blinds could make all the difference.

A conservatory can make a beautiful addition to a period property. It might simply be a place to relax and take in the best your garden has to offer, or it might provide your family with much-needed extra living space. Whatever its purpose , you’ll need to ensure you can enjoy it all year round.

Hot Favourite

One of the most common problems new owners encounter in their glass rooms is overheating. “On a hot July day, temperatures in an unprotected space can peak at a stifling 43°C,” says Michael Madigan, Chief Executive at Appeal Conservatory Blinds. “Such extremes of heat can drastically reduce your enjoyment of the room – but you can do something about it. Roof and side blinds offer an excellent way to reduce internal temperature.” Research by Faber Maunsell has shown that these attractive additions can effect a drop of up to 8°C. They also offer valuable insulation in the colder months. “You could save up to 18% on the cost of heating the space by installing high-quality blinds,” says Michael. In doing so, you’ll be able to create a snug environment whilst saving energy and reducing your carbon footprint.
