Make the most of home in Lockdown Summer
As lockdown regulations begin to ease, many of us are able to get out and about a little more. But the reality remains that we will spending more time than ever at home this summer. However, this might be a blessing in disguise for people with outdoor space. With long-range forecasts predicting plenty of hot days, the “Mediterranean lifestyle” we often promise ourselves could be a reality… especially long, lingering meals on your terrace (with appropriate social distancing measures).
It’s been a stressful period in many people’s lives, so we all deserve to treat ourselves – and home improvements are a wonderful way to give yourself lasting satisfaction.
Under the latest government guidelines, we are now able again to offer home visits for design consultations – following strict health protocols.
Protection is our business
Whether it’s our blinds and awnings shielding you and your belongings from the damaging effects of UV rays, or our insect screens guarding your family against mosquitos, we have always taken protection seriously at Appeal. And we are taking health and safety extremely seriously in these unprecedented times – for the protection of our customers and staff alike.
You can buy in confidence from Appeal – a British company with over 30 years’ experience and holder of a Platinum Trusted Service Award from independent review site Feefo. Our sizeable factory in Bristol allows our craftspeople to handmake our products in their own socially distanced workspaces. So we are able to fulfil orders as usual. (We are also still offering flexible payment options, including buy-now, pay-in-12-months – which could be useful at the current time.) And remember, this is a NO-OBLIGATION consultation – many of our customers have said in their reviews that they appreciated the “non-pushy” approach.
Our design consultants, surveyors and installers will follow the same strict procedures to minimise risk to you and themselves – click here for details of the steps we’re taking.
We believe our measures make the experience much more comfortable and convenient than a visit to the shops. But please feel free to discuss any specific questions you have when booking a consultation.
Give your home Lockdown Summer Appeal
Al fresco dining under an awning – Appeal’s range of awnings gives you the best of both worlds when dining – or sitting with a family member two metres away – on your terrace. The joys of being outside – aromas from the flowers (or barbecue), the sounds of birdsong (they’ve got bolder in recent months!) and a gentle breeze. But without the glare of the sun warming up your wine or curdling the mayonnaise in your salad.
Appeal’s state-of-the-art, German-engineered Haus awnings have a unique OptiFlowSystem® which keeps the fabric taut and prevents sagging. You can control the awning from the comfort of your seat with a remote control. Our awnings are also available with optional LED lights and infra-red heaters, to keep the outdoor party going even if it clouds over.
If you need to cover a large area (to accommodate those extra 2m spaces), the Haus pergola covers an enormous 30 sq metres. Additional support is provided by telescopic legs, which can be angled to suit the conditions, and mean the structure is extremely robust if the wind picks up.
All Haus awnings and pergolas from Appeal are available in over 300 different fabric colours, and with more than 50 frame colours.
Keep OTHER bugs out – While there is no specific evidence that flies or other insects can transmit the Covid-19 virus between humans, there are plenty of other reasons for us not to want them breaching lockdown and entering our homes.
Appeal’s retractable insect screens for windows and doors are made from super-fine ClearVu mesh. Despite the barrier it creates for the tiniest of insects, this is almost as transparent as glass and allows a pleasant breeze to waft through your home. In operation, it is held closed by a magnet. Insects can’t sneak around the edges because of the side channels and brush seals. Door screens run along a flat track on the floor, so there is no trip hazard. When not in use, the screen is housed discreetly in a slimline cassette above your window or to the side of your door.
Like all Appeal products, retractable insect screens are made and fitted bespoke to the dimensions and needs of your home. The frame comes in white, but is also available with the option of colour-matching it to the specific colour of your existing window or door frames.
Working from home?
We know that not everyone has been sat wondering what to do with their time over the past few months – believe us, we know how hard some people are working from home. And working in unfamiliar spaces during the day suddenly reveals previously unknown glare through the window, directly into your eyes, or making your screen impossible to see.
Rather than go full Howard Hughes and sit in a darkened, curtained off room all day,you could opt for ULTRA Smart Blinds and control blinds in a group or individually with one touch of the remote control, lowering them just enough to cut out the glare without losing all daylight. Upgrade to ULTRA Plus with voice activation and you can create scenarios to track the movement of the sun across a room – controlled either from your phone or tablet, or using commands to an Amazon Alexa or Google Home hub.
Appeal’s ULTRA Smart Blinds are available in various styles – Roman, Roller, Pleated, Venetian, plus specialist styles for bathrooms etc – and in over 400 fabrics and colours, plus the option of exact colour matching. Like all Appeal products, the blinds are tailor-made for your window dimensions – it’s a truly bespoke service.
Now the only reason to get up from your desk is a cup of tea and a biccy!
A favourite of many of our customers, Bobby, the West Highland Terrier from our TV adverts, is back. The clever dog takes advantage of the one-paw control offered by ULTRA blinds to control his environment and help him have an afternoon snooze – lucky fella. Keep an eye out for him on various channels this month.
Bobby’s is not the only familiar face we’re glad to see again. We look forward to reuniting with our many returning customers… and making new connections too.
